True hospitality is a thing of beauty. Delicate, fascinating, tricky to define. I don’t believe it is limited by resources or escalated through force. Often, it is surprisingly simple. A smile. An honest look in the eye. A slight accommodation that perhaps makes someone’s day. It is not about lessening oneself to raise up another, but rather establishing an honest connection to better understand the needs and desires of others. Service is easy, yet ultimately un-rewarding.
Hospitality is difficult, but let me say that whether I experience it or provide it, it warms my heart. I was ecstatic when I was offered an opportunity to share my beliefs in this matter along with my knowledge and love of wine as General Manager & Beverage Director of The Tangled Vine. My passion for wine is long and strong. It has developed into a love of the old world with its warped and gnarled vines - some developing for centuries. Wine grown in such vineyards, especially made naturally and with as little manipulation as possible, is what we at the Vine wish to share with all of you. Be it a warm, rich, juicy hug from the Mediterranean coast of Spain or a bright, crisp, eye-watering smile from the banks of Germany’s Mosel, the wines on our list want to take you places and invoke emotions.
I look to bring new experiences to our patrons daily; with a comforting glass of an old favorite or a unique Trio of Sherries, with a simple warm hello or an in-depth conversation about world travels. I look to establish an environment of comfort and non-judgmental joy where all can relax, breathe and laugh out loud. I genuinely believe such an environment is possible while providing a high level of service and knowledge along with integrity, accountability and often, even education. So come in, enjoy, share, hopefully learn something new and leave full, satisfied and excited. Don’t be afraid to ask for me or leave me a note, be it positive or negative or simply curious – I relish them all. Cheers.
